When i receive this bottle of marimos from my friend for my birthday, i was kind of curious when i first saw them.

I was actually thinking to myself: "What the heck are these 2 dark green looking furry balls?".

Then my friend told me that they are called Marimos and ask me to read the instructions found on the small little note that is hanging on the bottle..

I did what the instructions told me to, i change the water once a month and place it on the table near the window in my room. After two year, i realised that it turn into light green colour and i actually consult some pro about it and they say it is dead. I read the little note again and i notice it says: " NO DIRECT SUNLIGHT", maybe because of that which causes it's death... I am so sorry, marimo, RIP!

After 2 years, i actually bought 4 new marimos! Baby bugs bunny love the
little darlings!

Here i want to show you my little friends :)

Are they cute?
What is actually a Marimo?
A marimo ball is a rare growth form of algae, which grows into large green balls with a soft, velvety appearance. Mari means bouncy ball and Mo is a term for plants that grow in water. So , marimo means bouncy plant. In Japan the marimo has said to be a national treasure. They can grow patches on a lake floor at depths from 2 to 2.5 m. The round shape of the marimo is maintained by wave action that turns it.
They are happily swimming in the water! Wee....

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR MARIMO
- Grow in tap water at room temperature as long as the water is changed every one or two weeks.

- Indirect sunlight is fine. Do not place under direct sunglight.
-You should turn them over once in a while for them to keep their round shape.

-Marimo's are actually VERY easy to take care of, probably one of the easiest plants that live in water.

-If it turn brown in colour, it is normal. This mean that the Marimo is dirty and you should always remember to wash it!
- You can put it into your fridge if you think the temperature is getting too hot for the marimos.

UNIQUE FACTS ABOUT MARIMO
1) They  do not float unless the water is squeezed out of them.

2) They are not moss, they are a very unique type of algae.

3) They do not die when frozen.

I don't have huge liking for plants although i do love flowers and i admire how plants can beautify the environment! If you will like to keep a plant, a good choice will be a marimo coz it is easy to care for and make a good friend of yours. Keep you feel relax while looking at them! :)
